Even though it’s been nine years since Shannon Masur took on colon cancer, she won’t refer to herself as cancer-free. A lot of people are resistant to use words like “cured” and “cancer-free,” and that’s completely OK. Shannon says she’s totally fine with other people using those phrases, but in her situation, she feels it just doesn’t fit.
“I don’t use that phrase, it doesn’t work for me mentally,” Shannon says. “You never know what’s going to happen … Everybody is facing something in their lives that is really challenging. I always just say ‘so far, so good.'”
