"When you know that you're losing the battle against cancer, you have to make sure you prepare for the worst," says Dr. Raja Flores, chairman of the Department of Thoracic Surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.
That may mean focusing on palliative care rather than trying to continue fighting the cancer. Palliative care is all about trying to improve the quality of life for a patient and family by providing relief from the symptoms and stress of the disease.
