Hormonal therapy is the standard treatment for men with advanced prostate cancer that has spread beyond the prostate gland. And while it is effective, it does have its own set of side effects that do need to be considered. The American Cancer Society maintains that hormone therapy alone does not cure prostate cancer, yet many doctors believe that it offers the best chance for destroying active and aggressive cancer cells, especially when given in combination with chemotherapy.
