But there are always risks and benefits to consider with chemo as with other treatment options. For men with prostate cancer that’s spread to the bones, chemotherapy can reduce pain and prolong life, says Dr. Freedland, and when given earlier can even prolong life not just by a couple of months, but by more than a year.
